My business is suffering because commercial activities have come to a halt. The economic situation has been deteriorating since the coup on July 3 this year (ED: When President Moirsi was deposed). General Abdul Fattah el-Sisi says he does not want to divide the country into two halves, but in reality he has done exactly that.

El-Sisi refused all the proposed solutions. He does not want to solve the current political problems. He wants to completely win over pro-Morsi supporters, but this will not happen because these supporters form a large section of the Egyptian people.

The Islamic factions won the last five elections: two referendums, two municipal elections and the presidential elections. The Brotherhood’s popularity might have dropped, but supporters of Islamic thought still, generally speaking, enjoy the same level of popularity. The war now is against not only the Brotherhood, but also the Islamic movement altogether.

Breaking sit-ins by force is a crime. These massacres were aimed at scaring the Egyptian people. Egyptians, however, can no longer be terrified. This plot could have worked in the 1960s but not nowadays. The sit-ins were peaceful yet were broken up violently, murdering large numbers of peaceful protestors.

As long as el-Sisi stays in power or as the Minister of Defence, the future will be gloomy. He tried to alienate the Islamists, which is impossible. Despite everything, the Islamic movement’s approach is peaceful. They will not use violence. The Brotherhood has been a peaceful political movement since 1928. They did indeed fight the English occupation but so did the communists who used to form secret armed-resistance groups: The Brotherhood returned to its peaceful nature after independence. If fair democratic elections are held, the Islamists will reassume power because they represent the majority in society.

The current el-Sisi government has come to power to eliminate the Islamic movement. It will make no economic progress. True, some Arab kingdoms have announced financial support for this transitional government, but in fact they want to thwart the democratic experience in Egypt so that they can safeguard their monarchies. These kingdoms are Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Jordan and Bahrain. Their rulers have looted their people’s wealth and want to keep what they have stolen. So they will not allow a successful democratic experience in Egypt.
