Modernization of the industry and fabric imports have contributed to eliminating the prestige of this craft, but traditional manufacturers are still producing textiles and passing the trade onto their children. Handmade products can still be found throughout homes in Akhmim city. For the past few years, civil organizations have contributed to preserving the industry by conducting training workshops for girls and women in order to help them earn an income.
